2017 Best of ITS Awards
Each year the Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia recognizes the outstanding people, organizations and projects that make Georgia a leader in the deployment and operation of intelligent transportation systems. We also recognize volunteers who make ITS Georgia one of the top ITS Chapters in the country. This year’s outstanding people and projects are:
Larry R. Dreihaup Award – Georgia Department of Transportation
For demonstrating how ITS principles and technology can be applied in the face of our most significant operational events – from the I-85 bridge collapse to Hurricane Irma evacuations to the opening of the new Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Outstanding Volunteer Award – Whitney Nottage, P.E., PTOE of Intelight, Inc.
For leading the chapter’s outreach activities and mentoring her successor as the Social Committee Chair the last two years with a strong sense of dedication that resulted in tremendous growth in membership networking.
Innovation: Outside the Box Award – City of Marietta for its Marietta TravelSafely App
For becoming the first city in the United States to connect drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to each other with a smartphone app that aims to improve both safety and operations throughout the transportation network.
Project of Significance Award – RENEW Atlanta for its North Avenue Smart Corridor project
For their innovative efforts in creating a “living lab” for Internet of Things deployments, data collection and analytics, autonomous vehicles, and unique partnerships to fundamentally transform how the City of Atlanta plans for, designs, and operates its transportation infrastructure.
Outstanding Public Member Agency Award – Cobb County Department of Transportation
For their commitment and innovation in expanding the ITS deployment in the greater Cumberland area in advance of opening the new Atlanta Braves stadium, SunTrust Park.
2017 President’s Award – Jim Tolson, P.E., IMSA II of Arcadis
For his service to the chapter in organizing and serving as Conference Chair for the 2017 Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, which set records for attendance, sponsorship and exhibitors, featuring an outstanding technical program and valuable networking opportunities.
